What Does an Ergonomic Office Chair Cost, and What Do You Get at Each Price?

Published · By Ergocrew · Specs and guidance as of that date, from the pages under Sources

Summary

The chairs compared here ranged from $159.99 to $609.99 at the makers' US stores, checked 2026-10-13. A larger budget does not automatically buy a better fit: ProtoArc lists 1.6" of seat-depth adjustment on the entry-priced Flexer, while more expensive chairs offer different armrest and lumbar adjustments. Start with the adjustment your present chair cannot provide, then compare the exact color and version. A pull-out leg rest serves a different purpose from an under-desk footrest.

What every chair should adjust, at any price

OSHA's purchasing guide sets a baseline that does not depend on price. It gives a seat height range of 15 to 22 inches and a seat pan length of 15 to 17 inches. It also asks for an adjustable seat depth, lumbar support that matches the curve of the lower back, and a backrest that reclines at least 15 degrees and locks firmly into place.

For armrests, it calls for height adjustment from 7 to 10.5 inches above the seat pan and spacing of at least 16 inches. OSHA's chair guidance adds that "The chair should have a five-leg base with casters that allow easy movement along the floor."

Use those checks to see where a fixed setting would leave you without room to adjust. A feature count cannot tell you whether the seat and backrest fit your body. OSHA's purchasing guide also recommends trying a chair "for comfort and fit over an extended period of time prior to purchase."

The price table

Prices are the selling prices at each maker's US store, checked 2026-10-13. "From" means the lowest of several colors or versions. Chairs are grouped by that price into under $200, $200-$299, $300-$499 and $500 and up. Specs are the makers' claims, checked 2026-10-23 except the S300 and C300 Ultra V2 entries, checked 2026-11-01. A dash means an adjustment remains unconfirmed; ask the maker before relying on it.

What the extra money buys

Features do not climb neatly from one price band to the next. Seat-depth adjustment already appears at the bottom: ProtoArc lists it on the Flexer, which was $159.99 at ProtoArc's US store, checked 2026-10-13. The S300 adds dual dynamic lumbar support and 6D armrests, while the C300 Ultra V2 lists 8D armrests. Those differences still need to match the adjustment you want; an unconfirmed table cell is not proof that a chair lacks the feature.

The useful comparisons are the individual adjustments:

OSHA's chair guidance says to use a footrest when the seat cannot be lowered, which means a rest under the desk. The pull-out leg rest on a footrest version is a different item: Sihoo's B100 page describes extending it when reclining. If you want leg support while leaning back, compare the B300 Pro's white versions: the footrest adds $299.99 - $269.99 = $30 at Sihoo's US store, checked 2026-10-13. Confirm the selected version and delivery timing with Sihoo; its black standard version was marked backordered on 2026-11-01.

If you need a sliding seat at a smaller budget, compare the ProtoArc Flexer's 1.6" adjustment with the EC200 Pro's 1.97" range. They were $159.99 and $249.99 respectively at ProtoArc's US store, checked 2026-10-13; confirm the usable seat depth and the selected option's price with ProtoArc before buying.

Listed price and selling price

Many of these listings show a higher crossed-out price beside the selling price. The tables use only the selling price, because that is what the store charged on the checked date. Our guide to office chair sale prices covers how to read those crossed-out figures.
